Dougherty Says Bartlett Is Out of Touch

  • Health Care

MEDICAID FUNDING VOTE SHOWS POOR JUDGMENT

Congressman Roscoe Bartlett voted against the interests of people who live in this district by supporting the Administration plan to slash Medicaid funding. “It’s a disgraceful and insulting vote to ignore the needs of Marylanders in these tough economic times. Bartlett supports making tax cuts for the wealthiest permanent, but thumbs his nose at people who truly need help,” said Democratic nominee Jennifer Dougherty. “He is out of touch and shows poor judgment with votes like this.”

A small group of extremists tried to cut $18 billion from Medicaid over the next five years. The House bill voted to protect the Medicaid safety net with a veto-proof majority (349-62).

“It is so unfortunate to see him turn his heart against those who need help. This is another example of Bartlett’s flawed logic where the rich are rewarded with tax cuts and the poor need to pay the price. If Bartlett thinks the strains on the economy are so great that we cannot afford to protect the neediest Americans, why does he support tax cuts for the rich or our continued presence in Iraq?”

Dougherty has challenged Bartlett to debate the issues in every county in the District. Bartlett has not committed to any scheduled debates.

International Marriage Broker Regulation Act

Submitted by Anonymous on May 24, 2008 - 2:04pm.

The fact that Roscoe Bartlett voted for the International Marriage Broker Regulation Act(IMBRA)clearly proves he is out of touch with reality. Congressmen Bartlett (a member of the Liberty Caucus)voted for IMBRA romance law that requires American men to submit to background checks before they can communicate (or say hello) to a woman in a foreign country if they use the services of a penpal or dating agency. Shortly after the law was passed I visited with Congresmen Bartlett's staff(Monica Delong)and much to my surprise Bartlett's staff knew absolutely nothing about this BLATANTLY UNCONSTITUTIONAL law. I explained how this law was in reality a SCANDAL based upon manufactured hysteria and bogus facts from advocacy groups who exaggerated abuse rates in international relationships in order to get sympathy from guillible politicans to give money to their "manufactured" problem.

What exactly is going here...?
Congressmen Bartlett and his staff knew nothing about this bizarre romance law and yet they voted for the law because the proponents of thelaw(quietly)attached it to a much larger bill when our Congresmen weren't looking.

A few months later the Hagerstown Herald and Cumberland Times published my open letter to Bartlett with a very specific request for a face to face meeting with Roscoe Bartlett (not Monica Delong)which was subsequently refused by a written confirmation in the Hagerstown Herald in Nov. 2006.

Meanwhile I recently wrote a very comprehensive academic research report entitled "IMBRA: Anatomy of the first Federal law to regulate International Romance and marriage" which reveals the massive fraud and deception used to get the romance law passed by POLS like Congressmen Bartlett.
